David Lyon Perewonrimi the elected and winner of 2019 bayelsa state governorship election, was born on 20th December, 1970 into the family of Mr & Mrs Arukubu Lyon Ekpeke of Abebiri family of Olugbobiri Community in Olodiama clan of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa state.
At age 8, he began his educational life, attending Saint Gabriel’s State School Olugbobiri, from 1978 to 1983, and community secondary school, Olugbobiri, from 1984 to 1988. further more, he proceeded to Rivers State College of Education, and there he bagged the National Certificate of Education (NCE).

David lyon is a wealthy businessman and relatively new in the political ground, he sits on board several conglomerates, a feat attained from the rank of a fore-man with Western Company Ltd. As a businessman with a dexterity for the management of human resources, his business has kept him afloat in the complex oil and gas industry, where he renders several services to oil and gas multinational companies.
He started his political sojourn in his community, Olugbobiri, where he emerged as the youth president. He was also appointed as the caretaker chairman of Apoi/Olodiama development centre, as well as a former Ward 4 chairman in Southern Ijaw, under the National Republican Convention.
He contested under the platform of PDP as an aspirant to represent the Southern Ijaw Constituency IV in 2011. He defected from the party in 2015 to join the ruling APC.
On the 22nd of October 2019, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress on Monday formally handed the party’s flag and its symbol, the broom, to the party’s governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, David Lyon.
This was after he won the September 2019 primaries of the party. Lyon polled 42,138 votes to defeat five other aspirants in the primary election of the party conducted on Wednesday by the APC Bayelsa State Governorship Primary Election Committee chaired by the Yobe State Governor, Mai-Mala Buni.
Former Minister of State for Agriculture, Lokpobiri, would reject the result of the primaries, taking his case to court thus leading to a brief disqualification of Lyon from the governorship race. However the Appeal Court which was approached by the APC and David Lyon has ordered a stay of execution pending November 20 when the motion would be heard.
After the official announcement of six out of eight local government areas in the state, it was clear that an upset was on cards. APC won in four while PDP won in two.
